Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at swim@swimdynamiclakeland.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Swim Dynamic and Sweet Peas are passionate about education and safety. We pride ourselves on classes designed to accommodate the individual. We bring a respect and love for education by balancing functional skills with confidence, through fun. We value honesty and integrity and put others first by showing compassion and respect.

All lessons occur at our South Lakeland facility, where we provide indoor, heated pools and a climate-controlled gymnastics area.  Our address is 5825 Brannen Road S, located off of Brannen Road S, near Sonny's and the SPCA.

SWIM: Our pools are indoors; there is no need for sunscreen. Please bring a towel for after the lesson. You may also bring a change of clothes if you would like to change before leaving. Goggles are strongly encouraged for children 3 and older, as they facilitate faster learning. Children 3 and under must adhere to our diapering policies. *Please see policies regarding fecal accidents. Goggles and swim diapers are available at our swim store on-site.

GYM:  All Sweet Peas should wear athletic clothing with no buttons, zippers or snaps.  Well fitted shorts with a shirt tucked in or a unitard style leotard may be worn.  For privacy and protection of your little ones, leotards without short worn over them will not be allowed.  Stomachs must be covered.  No two-piece apparel will be permitted.  Please do not wear frilly tutus. Sweet Peas will go barefoot, so there is no specific footwear required.  Please make sure little feet are clean before entering the gym.  Long hair must be pulled into a ponytail, braid, or bun.  No dangling jewelry, necklaces or earrings may be worn in the gym. Please bring a water bottle for your Sweet Pea.

**Before entering the pool area or gym, please have your child/children do the following things:

  • Remove food, gum or candy from the mouth
  • Remove all adhesive bandages (for swim lessons only)
  • Use the restroom

Please arrive five minutes before (no earlier please) the scheduled class time. Parents must accompany children at all times while on the premises. During peak times the parking lot is crowded. Please take into consideration the safety of others and drive slowly and carefully.  We also have permission to park in the grassy easements by the fences of the neighboring businesses (not the SPCA).

We have changing rooms, restrooms and a water fountain for your convenience. Please sign in at the check-in kiosk upon arrival.  Please be considerate of others. and be seated in the waiting room until your class begins.

Parents/responsible parties must remain on site for each lesson (no matter the age of the participant) to escort children safely to and from the restroom when needed, or to be available in cases of emergencies, inclement weather, or questions.

We have waiting area with seating for guests that are not participating in a class.  Classes are live streamed onto  large screens for viewing in the waiting area.

SWIM : For most of our lessons and classes, we ask that you kiss your little one and trust them to the care of our employees. We have a viewing area, where you can see everything happening via video feed. This allows us to quickly bond with your little one and help them realize that we are there to help them. We always assure them that their parents will be back very soon. We have found that when allowing parents to sit up close, children often have a hard time paying attention to the lesson and only look for a parent to “rescue” them. We ask that you wait in the viewing room for the entirety of the lesson. As your child thrives in the lessons, our Lead Instructors will discuss progress and/or showcase your child’s new skill or accomplishment.  One parent/adult is required to participate in our Parent Interactive classes. Others may wait in the viewing areas.  Siblings of swimmers are encouraged to join a swim class or gymnastics class.  If not enrolled in a class of their own, they must wait in the viewing area with an adult.

GYM: Sweet Peas classes are designed specifically with each age group in mind. For safety and to keep the class focused, we do not allow siblings to participate or be on the floor during class. We encourage siblings to enroll in a swim class at the same time OR wait with another adult in our viewing area.

We’re happy to welcome non-participating babies into our Sweet Peas parent interactive classes, as long as the parent/guardian is fully able to participate with the class and wears the non-participating baby safely while in the activity space. For safety, infants may not be placed on the floor or equipment during class.

Our instructors complete comprehensive training, which requires online and hands-on training.  Our swim instructors are certified through SwimAmerica . Our gym instructors are certified through USA Gymnastics.   In addition, some instructors hold additional specialized certifications for adaptive classes, lifeguarding and CPR / First Aid.

SWIM: Swim lessons are safe! We are completely committed to our swimmers, while we are working on new skills and teaching them to navigate the water. There is always a lifeguard on site, and our instructors are professionally trained and certified. GYM: Sweet Peas Gymnastics is designed to be a safe environment, focusing on age-appropriate activities for young children, certified instructors, specialized equipment to minimize injury risk, and emphasizing development in a structured, positive setting.

Please note that your child may be concerned about leaving you in this new environment. Our highly trained instructors typically gain  children’s focus quickly by engaging them in conversation and song shortly after parting. Keep in mind that this does not mean that your child will "love" their classes right away. The first few days of lessons can be overwhelming. They will be in a NEW environment, working with a NEW person on NEW skills. That can be very overwhelming to anyone, let alone a child. Typically, the anxiety of performing the skill at hand is greater than the actual skill itself. We promise to comfort and care for your child as they acclimate to all of these new things.

Should the weather become a problem, we will contact you within 30 minutes of your lesson time. SWIM:  If swim lessons are taking place in the water and thunderstorms occurs, there must be 15 minutes left of the lesson for it to be rescheduled.  *See WHAT HAPPENS IF A CLASS IS MISSED for reschedule and cancellation policy. GYM: Sweet Peas classes will not be cancelled during thunderstorms.   In the case of severe weather, we will notify you of any cancellations with as much advance notice as possible.

If your child is sick, please let us know with as much advance notice as possible.  We ask that you keep your little one out of lessons until they are fever-free, and/or vomit and diarrhea-free for at least 24 hours.  *See WHAT HAPPENS IF A CLASS IS MISSED for reschedule and cancellation policy.

ALL lessons and classes at Swim Dynamic and Sweet Peas require 24-hour notice for rescheduling and/or cancellation (including sickness).  With proper notice, excused absences and lessons cancelled by our staff (due to unforeseen circumstances) will be issued a makeup token.  Excused absences are limited to one makeup token per month. Makeup tokens for weekly recurring lessons will expire after 90 days or upon the last day of class once a drop date is entered. Without proper notice, families can either forfeit the lesson/class missed or schedule to attend a designated makeup class (see fees below).  SWIM: Makeup tokens for kickstarts must be used within 30 days.

Our team of amazing instructors will occasionally need a day off!  Don't worry, we will make sure that a highly qualified instructor is ready to take over.  We will do our best to notify families by email when a substitute instructor is assigned to a class.  If you choose to not attend your regularly scheduled lesson due to a substitute instructor, you are able to reschedule your class *please see WHAT HAPPENS IF A CLASS IS MISSED for make up class fees

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

It is our goal to preserve an environment which includes a high degree of innovation, goal orientation, quality ideas from the swimming community and a coherent direction for action. By providing a variety of proper techniques and services, we are able to satisfy the needs of the community. Our professionally run, lifeguard supervised organization offers highly trained staff that are prepared to work with swimmers at all ages and stages of swimming. Our program  is designed to accomplish effective and rapid learning. Every student is taught with care, compassion, good humor, respect and understanding.

That being said, YOU are the primary safety provider for your child in any setting. During lessons, handing that role over to our instructors may seem difficult. Rest assured that all of our instructors are trained and certified to fill that role during your child’s experience with us. At our facility, you are an observer and along with your child, you are a student. Take in everything you see and hear. You will be able to use this information as you work with your child in the water following completion of their lessons.
