According to the CDC, drowning is the number one cause of unintentional death for children between the ages of 1 and 4. From 2019 to 2021 combined, Florida was ranked the highest in the U.S. for unintentional drowning death rate among children ages 1 to 4 years. And according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission, 390 deaths a year on average are
attributed to drowning in a swimming pool or at a spa.
Florida is ranked second on the list of states when it comes to the number of pools per person because it is hot here
10 months out of the year! Even if you don't have one,
there is almost certainly a pool near your home.
Overall, the survey finds that more than half of all Americans (54 percent) either can't swim or don't have all of the basic swimming skills.
We are aware that every swimmer, just as every human,
develops at a different rate. Our certified instructors hold a
high level of competency and knowledge They are equipped
to use a "tool box" of skills, choosing whatever "tool" is
needed to make each individual a successful swimmer.
Although, there is no such thing as "drown-proofing", we are confident in our training and experience and have had great success teaching swimmers of all ages for the last fifteen years!
HATCHLINGS - ages 4 months - 2 years
Swimmers in this age group will work through skills as they progress toward the following goals:
- learning safety skills and responding appropriately
- submersion and breath control
- floating independently
- introduction to swimming
By the time swimmers finish the HATCHLINGS program, they should be working on short distance assisted swims and are able to either float independently or turn themselves around and return to a given destination, should they fall or jump into the water.
CYGNETS - ages 2 - 4 years
Our CYGNET stations are designed to reach swimmers ages 2 and up. CYGNET stations often progress quickly and skills tend to overlap as swimmers develop their techniques. Once CYGNETS are able to maintain themselves in the water for longer periods of time, swimming longer distances and taking breaths on their own, they are ready to progress to the next level.
SWANS - ages 4 - 12 years
Once swimmers have learned the CYGNET skills, they progress as a Swim Dynamic SWAN, where they will work on additional skills needed to make a well-rounded swimmer. As they are promoted, swimmers will move through the SWAN stations, from beginning stroke technique all the way to advanced skills needed to join a swim team.
